Tarah Nixon, BS, CVT, dip. ABST
Elite Fear Free Certified
Tarah is a Certified Veterinary Technician with a Bachelor’s of Science in Animal Science from the University of Arizona (2004). She returned to school to earn a Master’s degree in Animal Behavior (dip. ABST, 2020).
During her career as a veterinary technician, Tarah has worked in emergency and critical care, she has been a technician supervisor in a large specialty hospital, led as a practice manager in general practice, and has been an educator.
Tarah is Elite Fear Free Certified and a huge proponent of the Fear Free initiative; she even added Fear Free to the curriculum while she was an instructor in an associate degree program for veterinary technician students.
Beginning at the young age of 6-years-old, Tarah has enjoyed training and showing her dogs and horse. Tarah also volunteers with Southern Arizona Mounted Search and Rescue (SAMSAR).
Lisa Wirth, BS, VMD
Veterinarian and Owner
Elite Fear Free Certified
Dr. Wirth has a Bachelor’s of Science in Veterinary Science from the University of Arizona (2005). She returned to her birth state of Pennsylvania to attend the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, earning her Veterinary Medicine Doctorate (2011).
Dr. Wirth has experience in general and emergency veterinary medicine; she has edited and illustrated for veterinary journals and conference proceedings; and she was also staff veterinarian and an instructor in an associate degree program for veterinary technician students.
Fear Free methods of working with your pets are incredibly important to Dr. Wirth. She became certified the first year Fear Free was offered and is Elite Fear Free certified.
Dr. Wirth decided when she was five-years-old that she was going to be a veterinarian, and clearly, her early childhood dream did not waver! She enjoys spending her free time with her husband of 15 years, three children (ages 4, 7, and 14), and four dogs (ages 1, 8, 10, and 11).
Serena Causey, AS, CVT
Fear Free Certified
Serena is a Certified Veterinary Technician with an Associates of Science in Applied Veterinary Science from Pima Medical Institute (2015).
Serena has worked as an emergency and intensive care veterinary technician at a busy small animal hospital. Prior to emergency and intensive care, Serena worked in veterinary general practice.
Serena is Fear Free Certified and is a strong believer that our dog and cat
patients deserve to be handled gently and respectfully.
Serena is a native Tucsonan and a proud member of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe. Her love for animals goes back as far as she can remember. As a child, Serena drove her mom crazy by bringing home a variety of strays and playing with anything from frogs to horned toads. When she’s not spending her time with animals, Serena can be found enjoying a concert, experimenting with vegan and vegetarian recipes, or weight training.
