Tarah Nixon, BS, CVT, dip. ABST

Elite Fear Free Certified

Low Stress Handling Silver Certified

Tarah is a Certified Veterinary Technician with a Bachelor’s of Science in Animal Science from the University of Arizona (2004). She returned to school to earn a Master’s degree in Animal Behavior (dip. ABST, 2020).

During her career as a veterinary technician, Tarah has worked in emergency and critical care, she has been a technician supervisor in a large specialty hospital, led as a practice manager in general practice, and has been an educator.

Tarah is Elite Fear Free Certified and a huge proponent of the Fear Free initiative; she even added Fear Free to the curriculum while she was an instructor in an associate degree program for veterinary technician students.

Tarah has also completed the Low Stress Handling Silver Certification Program. This program delves deeply into the often subtle ways dogs and cats communicate fear and anxiety, and trains how to handle pets in a relaxed, non-threatening manner.

Beginning at the young age of 6-years-old, Tarah has enjoyed training and showing her dogs and horse. Tarah also volunteers with Southern Arizona Mounted Search and Rescue (SAMSAR).
